Congratulations Wen Bo your 2011 ABC Hoops NYC Spring Season Champs!
Wen Bo was crowned Champion after winning a nail-biter this past Sunday. Real Ready had a similarly close game just an hour prior when they defeated Houlihan L in the semifinals. Wen Bo dominated the injured Hangovers in the early game.
The box scores from the playoffs are up, and the results page has been updated with the final spring stats. Team pages will be updated later this week with cumulative and per game stats for each player. Click the following links for the boxscores from each playoff game:
Photos will be uploaded in a few days, and stay tuned from a message from the commissioner.

Wen Bo locked up the number 1 seed last Sunday with a win over Houlihan L., so they'll be facing the Hangovers in the first game of the day on Sunday. Real Ready picked up the number 2 seed with the Houlihan L. loss, and the two teams will be facing up at around 1:15PM. The winners of each game will play each other at 2:30pm and one will be crowned the champion of the innaugural season of ABC Hoops.
Each team has faced each other at least once during the season, and here's a summary of the action:
12:00PM (1) Wen Bo vs (4) Hangovers
Wen Bo beat the Hangovers in both their matchups this season: one in Week 3 and one in Week 6. Wen Bo didn't shoot as well as they usually do in the first matchup with the Barnett-less Hangovers, but still managed to win by 7. In the second meeting of the teams, top-scorer Barnett played, but the team still lost--and by a larger margin. It's interesting to note that Wen Bo over the course of the season shot .322 from beyond the arch, but the Hangovers held them to .172 in both games.
Key Matchups:
David S. 21 PPG, .417 3P%, .727 FT%
Barnett 15.4 PPG, 7.4 RPG
1:15PM (2) Real Ready vs (3) Houlihan L.
Real Ready lost to Houlihan L. by 9 points in their only matchup of the year: Week 3. Richie C. of Real Ready had a huge game--scoring 28 points--but was held to an unusually low Three Point Percentage. Allan Z. of Houlihan L. also had a big game--scoring 25 points. The league leaders in rebounds Rohan P. of Real Ready and Scott M. of Houlihan L. were both absent in this game, but Houlihan L. out-rebounded Real Ready by a margin of 14.
Key Matchups:
Richie C. 31.5 PPG, 7-13 from 3PT in his last game
Allan Z. 17.4 PPG, .526 3P%
Potential Finals Matchup: (1) Wen Bo vs (2) Real Ready
Real Ready handed Wen Bo its only loss of the season in Week 7 after being defeated by Wen Bo in Week 2. The previous two games between these teams have been some of the best games seen in ABC Hoops this season. Richie C. had a monster game in Week 2 scoring 39 points, but David S., Irvin, and Edmund scored 17, 17, and 20 respectively and were able to come ahead by 3 points. Week 7 saw the second overtime game of the season, and despite being close for the entirety of the game, Real Ready was able to pull away in OT.
Potential Finals Matchup: (1) Wen Bo vs (3) Houihan L.
Wen Bo dominated Houlihan L. in Week 1 winning by 20 points, and they were able to pull away from a close game in Week 8 and win by 6. David S., Irvin, and Edmund had big games in Week 1, and it seems Wen Bo leads Houlihan L. to be a bit careless with the ball with 22 steals total in the two games. Daniel M. of Houlihan L. was perfect shooting field goals in the Week 8 matchup and led the team in scoring.
Potential Finals Matchup: (2) Real Ready vs (4) Hangovers
Real Ready beat the Hangovers by 9 in their only matchup of the season in Week 4. Richie C. was held to only 14 by the Hangovers, but Pat of Real Ready was able to pick up the slack by scoring 15. Barnett too was held to an uncharacteristic 9 points, but Jon W. picked it up and scored 15 points. This game was interesting in that Real Ready dominated the 1st half, and despite the Hangovers outscoring Real Ready in the 2nd, the Hangovers could not able overcome their dismal first half performance.
Potential Finals Matchup: (3) Houlihan L. vs (4) Hangovers
The Hangovers beat Houlihan L. by 7 in their only matchup of the season in Week 5. Barnett scored 22 and Larry L. helped him out by dropping 10 points and grabbing six boards. Scott M. and Allan Z. scored 13 and 14, respectively but the shorthanded Houlihan L. lost to the Hangovers after being outscored in the second half by 13 points.
Remember, the schedule on Sunday will be as follows:
12:00 - (1) Wen Bo vs (4) Hangovers
1:15 - (2) Real Ready vs (3) Houlihan L.
2:30 - Winners of both games play for the championship!

Week 8 Box Scores & Stat Updates
Neither of the two teams eliminated from playoff contention had enough heart to play on Sunday, so only one game took place. It was a good one, and it resulted in Wen Bo claiming the No. 1 seed in the playoffs while Houlihan L. dropped to the 3 seed.
Team pages have also been updated with last weeks' results and updated per game and total stats for each player. Week 8 photos will be up by Wednesday.

Week 8 - 6/5/11 Last Week of the Regular Season & Playoff Scenarios
The last day of the regular season is this Sunday, and it's been a competitive and fun season, but now it's time to get serious. The WNBA and Ponzi Schemers have officially been eliminated from playoff contention, but will be playing for each other and more importantly, for self respect. Additionally, the Hangovers are locked into the 4th seed, so they'll face the number 1 seed.
There are a number of scenarios that can potentially occur in terms of the 1-3 seeds. Here are a few:
Scenario 1
Real Ready beats WNBA and Wen Bo beats Houlihan L.
Playoff Matchups:
(1) Wen Bo vs (4) Hangovers
(2) Real Ready vs (3) Houlihan L.
Scenario 2
Real Ready loses to WNBA and Wen Bo beats Houlihan L.
Playoff Matchups:
(1) Wen Bo vs (4) Hangovers
(2) Houlihan L. vs (3) Real Ready
Scenario 3
Real Ready loses to WNBA and Wen Bo loses to Houlihan L. by greater than 20 points.
Playoff Matchups:
(1) Houlihan L. vs (4) Hangovers
(2) Wen Bo vs (3) Real Ready
Scenario 4
Real Ready loses to WNBA and Wen Bo loses to Houlihan L. by less than or equal to 20 points.
Playoff Matchups:
(1) Wen Bo vs (4) Hangovers
(2) Houlihan L. vs (3) Real Ready
Scenario 5
Real Ready beats WNBA and Wen Bo loses to Houlihan L. by greater than 20 points.
Playoff Matchups:
(1) Houlihan L. vs (4) Hangovers
(2) Real Ready vs (3) Wen Bo
Scenario 12 (where it gets complicated)
Real Ready beats WNBA and Houlihan L. beats Wen Bo by less than or equal to 20 points
Each team will be tied with a record of 6-2 and each team will win and lose one tiebreaker against the other two teams; therefore, no clear seeding can occur. If this happens, the following will take place at the conclusion of the 2PM matchup between Wen Bo and Houlihan L.:
-
A six-sided die will be provided
-
Each of the three teams will be assigned two numbers: Wen Bo 1 & 2, Real Ready 3 & 4, Houlihan L. 5 & 6.
-
The die will be rolled once.
-
Whichever team's number is displayed will be the number 1 seed and face the number 4 seed the Hangovers.
-
The two losing teams will face each other as the 2 and 3 seeds.
For a more detailed (convoluted & ridiculous) explanation of these scenarios and to view Scenarios 6-11 download the following pdf:
Remember, playoffs are scheduled for the following week (6/12), and will be played on one day. The schedule are games will be:
12:00 - Seed 1 vs. Seed 4
1:15 - Seed 2 vs. Seed 3
2:30 - Winners of both games play for the championship!

12PM: Wen Bo (5-0) vs. Hangovers (2-3)
Both teams are coming off very impressive Week 5 victories. The Hangovers trashed Houlihan giving them sole possession of the last playoff spot. Unfortunately, they will be facing an undefeated Wen Bo squad who flexed their muscles against the WNBA squad. Week 6 should answer some questions. Are the Hangovers contenders or pretenders? Will Wen Bo rest their starters or continue their dominance over the league?
Key Matchups:
Irvin (Wen Bo) 15.8 PPG, 7.8 RPG, 5.2 APG
Barnett (Hangovers) 15.2 PPG, 8.5 RPG
1PM: Houlihan L. (3-2) vs. WNBA All-Defensive Second Team (1-4)
The L in Houlihan doesn't stand for Lucky, it stands for LOSERS. After taking a spanking from the Hangovers, one must wonder what is going on with this team. On the same side of the coin, the WNBA simply did not show up on Week 5 against Wen Bo. However, this is a re-match of the thrilling Week 4 game that came down to the buzzer. If we're lucky, this game will be just as good.
Key Matchups:
Allan Z. (Houlihan L.) 16.6 PPG, .500 FG%
Max (WNBA) .700 FG% in Week 5, 8.2 PPG
2PM: Real Ready (3-2) vs. Ponzi Schemers (1-4)
The Ponzis have forfeit their Week 6 rematch with Real Ready all but assuring RR of a playoff spot. The OT loss must have been too much for the Ponzis. They'll be back and hopefully rested for their Week 7 matchup against Houlihan L.

12PM: Houlihan L. (3-1) vs. Hangovers (1-3)
After nearly blowing an eight point lead with less than two minutes to go, we finally discovered what that the L in Houlihan stands for – Lucky. Although they are on a three game winning streak, the Luckys better not sleep on the always competitive Hangovers who are fighting for that last playoff spot. Is it too early to say this is a must win for the Hangovers? I don't think so. It's a must win.
Key Matchups:
Allan Z. (Houlihan L.) 17.3 PPG, .509 FG%
Barnett (Hangovers) 13 PPG, 9 RPG
1PM: Wen Bo (4-0) vs. WNBA All-Defensive Second Team (1-3)
Heartbreak city for the WNBA squad who fought valiantly back against the Luckys only to have their last second shot rim out. Will this deflate the WNBA or add fuel to the fire as they face the league's undefeated team in Wen Bo? I smell an upset.
Key Matchups:
Irvin (Wen Bo) Week 4 line: 20 PTS, 17 RBS, 5 Assists
Jeff C. (WNBA) 14 PPG, 11 RPG
2PM: Real Ready (2-2) vs. Ponzi Schemers (1-3)
We have the league's top two leading scorers' going head to head this week. Real Ready reminded the League last week that they are here to stay and are legitimate title contenders. The Ponzis however, are in the midst of a three game losing streak. With so many question marks on this team, perhaps it's time for a new, dare I say, scheme?
Key Matchups:
Adam M. (Ponzi Schemers) 25.3 PPG, 6.8 RPG
Richie C. (Real Ready) 30.5 PPG, 2.8 RPG
There has been much beef recently about the storylines for each week, so we've implemented a commenting system to let your voice be heard.

Week 4 - 5/8/11 Preview
12PM: Wen Bo (3-0) vs. Ponzi Schemers (1-2)
After two consecutive losses, the Schemers' schedule gets no easier as they face a Wen Bo team looking to remain perfect. Week 3 showed that there are some chinks in Wen Bo's armor, but look for them to come out strong this week. Will the Schemers upset Goliath? Or do the rich ironically get richer?
Key Matchups:
David S. (Wen Bo) 20.7 PPG, 5.3 RPG
Adam M. (Ponzi Schemers) 23 PPG, 8.3 RPG
1PM: Houlihan L. (2-1) vs. WNBA All-Defensive Second Team (1-2)
They're on the board! The WNBA finally got that first W of the season and are now looking for another. Fortunately for them, they will be facing the league's worst defensive team in Houlihan L. who have allowed a league's worst, 159 points to their opponents. Will this trend continue or will Houlihan finally realize that defense wins championships?
Key Matchups:
Allan Z. (Houlihan L.) 17.3 PPG, .538 FG%
Henry B. (WNBA) 6.3 PPG, 12.3 RPG
2PM: Real Ready (1-2) vs. Hangovers (1-2)
Don't let the records of these two teams fool you. The Hangovers were in position to pull off the upset against Wen Bo, and Real Ready's two losses have come against the league's top two teams. Unfortunately, one must win and one must lose (unless it's a tie—read the league rules on ties). This Week 4 matchup will be a huge test for each team.
Key Matchups:
Richie C. (Real Ready) 36 PPG, 2.3 RPG
Barnett (Hangovers) 15 PPG, 11 RPG

Week 3 - 5/1/11 Preview
12PM: Hangovers (1-1) vs. Wen Bo (2-0)
Both teams are coming off impressive Week 2 victories as the Hangovers picked up their first win while Wen Bo and Co. remained perfect. Will the league's top team sober up the Hangovers or is this party just getting started?
Key Matchups:
David S. (Wen Bo) 21 PPG, .548 FG %
Barnett (Hangovers) 15 PPG, 11 RPG
1PM: WNBA All Defensive Second Team (0-2) vs. Ponzi Schemers (1-1)
Both battered teams went into Easter Break searching for answers as they combined to shoot an embarrassing 2 for 31 beyond the arc. Will a change of scenery help the WNBA get their first win or will the Schemers find a way to steal the show?
Key Matchups:
Jason L. (WNBA) 14 PPG, 3 RPG
Adam M. (Ponzi Schemers) 21.5 PPG, 9 RPG
2PM: Houlihan L. (1-1) vs. Real Ready (1-1)
The league's top offensive player will be hosting the league's worst defensive team. Will it once again be the Richie show or will Houlihan L. prove to the world that their Week 2 victory was no fluke?
Key Matchups:
Richie C. (Real Ready) 40 PPG, .481 FG%
Matt M. (Houlihan L.) 17 PPG, .583 FG%

Week 2 - 4/17/11 Preview
2PM: WNBA All Defensive Second Team (0-1) vs. Hangovers (0-1)
What's worse? Losing by two points or having one opposing player drop more than your entire team combined? After two tough losses in Week 1, both teams are back this Sunday in search for their first W of the season.
Key Matchups:
Barnett (Hangovers) 21 PPG, 11 RPG
Henry B (WNBA) 2 PPG, 14 RPG
3PM: Wen Bo (1-0) vs. Real Ready (1-0)
After a record-setting debut from Richie C (41 points), Real Ready better be really ready as they face Wen Bo, a team that dropped 70 points week 1. The league's top two scorers will go head to head in this highly anticipated week 2 matchup. Who will prevail? Will Richie drop another 40? Or will Wen Bo's cohesive team-play be too much?
Key Matchups:
Richie C (Real Ready) 41 PPG, 3 RPG
David S (Wen Bo) 25 PPG, 8 RPG
4PM: Ponzi Schemers (1-0) vs. Houlihan L. (0-1)
Coming off an emotional two point victory, the Schemers will take on a battered Houlihan squad that lost by 20 points. Led by their young star Adam M, the Schemers look to remain perfect while Houlihan L. search for answers. It'd be too easy to make a ponzi scheme joke against an investment bank. So I won't.
Key Matchups:
Adam M (Ponzi Schemers) 17 PPG, 7 RPG, 4 APG, .571 FG%
Daniel M (Houlihan L) 9PPG, 7 RPG, 5 APG
