Sunday - Division & League Finals Preview

Oakley Division Finals - 1:00PM - (1) Newport vs (9) Very Erratic Play

Newport is on a roll. They haven't won by less than 10 points since Week 4, and they really made a statement last week eliminating the two time champions Spring Street. These guys are really living up to their number one seeding. Very Erratic Play only won two games during the regular season. But for some reason, I just have trouble labeling this team, the "Cinderella" of the playoffs because they were last season's runner up and have been on a roll during these playoffs. Still, going chalk here: Newport.

Key Matchups from Week 6:

J. Waterman (NP) 20 Pts, 2 Rbs, 1 Ast, 1 Stl, 1 Blk
Vasco (VE) 16 Points, 14 Rbs, 1 Ast, 2 Stl, 1 Blk

Prediction: Newport advances

Mason Division Finals - 2:30PM - (1) Auto Buckets vs (6) PF Flyers

The Auto Buckets went undefeated during the regular season but have been shorthanded the last two weeks in the playoffs, and being undermanned has shown its effects. They won both of their playoff games, but both went into OT were only decided by three points. They have never faced my dark horse team, the PF Flyers. The Flyers upset the two seed by 11 points in the Mason Division Semifinals. Their three losses this season have been by a total of just seven points! As much as I love my dark horse pick, I think the journey ends here.

Key Matchup:

A. Williams (AB) 21.1 PPG, 6 RPG, 3.8 APG, 2 SPG, 0.3 BPG
S. Rogerson (PF) 19.9 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 0.4 APG, 2 SPG, 0.4 BPG

Prediction: Auto Buckets to the Finals

League Finals - 3:30PM - (1) Newport vs (1) Auto Buckets

The cream certainly rises to the top. This matchup will feature two teams that have not lost one game yet. There will be a couple of factors for this game, mostly stamina. Conventional wisdom would say Newport has the advantage as they have more rest, but I'm of the belief that cramping actually is more prone to happen with more rest after playing a game. It will also depend on how many players show up for Auto Buckets. If they show up with just five, they may run out of steam come the finals. With that said, I think Newport's deep bench will come into play and they'll finally end up with the crown (shirts).

Key Matchup:

J. Waterman (NP) 19.4 PPG, 5 Rpg, 1.4 Apg, 1.1 SPG, 0.1 BPG
A. Williams (AB) 21.1 PPG, 6 RPG, 3.8 APG, 2 SPG, 0.3 BPG

Prediction: Newport.
